The Beginning
A great restructuring is rapidly unfolding in our working lives. The ground beneath us is shifting to a new form of collaboration, where we work wherever and whenever we like. In this new world of work, we should have a new way of working that we couldn’t have anticipated, or even imagined, just a few years ago. But it often feels like we’ve gone nowhere. Qatalog addresses those foundational issues head-on, harnessing the latest science behind modern work to design an entirely new class of software. We’re building a work hub from first principles — systematically breaking down the elements of modern work and reassembling them from the ground up. But to make the good product you need to have a strong brand design architecture and system, that’s while we started working on that and creating a lot of digital assets and elements.
About the project
Qatalog is a digital work hub for your people, projects, and tools. Enabling teams to gain an understanding of the bigger picture and make quality decisions. Scale fast with radical transparency, automated knowledge flow, and tightly aligned teams and projects. Different teams had different languages. And tools. And we were divided by geography, and experience, and many other things. People and teams were isolated, and overwhelmed.
We needed something to reach over the divides and reconnect us. Not something that would put us all on the same page, but something that would let us stay on our own pages, and connect with each other just the same.
We’re building Qatalog as our universal language. All teams can speak Qatalog. People too. Qatalog lets everyone learn about each other, and share things they couldn’t before.
Client needs
To create a brand that could adapt as the product evolved, we created a brand design system that can flex to tell a variety of stories to different customers: from consultants to enterprise companies. Worked deeply collaboratively – running near-daily working sessions with the Qatalog team to develop the brand system, UI/UX designs as they continued to build the product. The goals of Qatalog were twofold. Firstly, it aimed to continually educate project management specialists about management and its nuances. For this, we created a graphic design system, which became a symbol of the Language work. Secondly, it sought to represent and promote main Qatalog product for different clients and needs. In order to accomplish this, we established a visual identity system, based on the actual, make it different for the products, goals and messages.
The Process / Immersion
It became clear that Qatalog didn’t just need a shiny visual design system. They needed a brand to unify its markets, define a resonant and universal customer proposition and, ultimately, help shift a lot of different products / goals and messages.
Our strategic proposition ‘We’re building the infrastructure for modern work” puts power in the product. From this foundation, we created a visual design system that represents the idea of making choices — flexing and shifting between options. From the logo to graphic elements, it’s dynamic, confident and bursting with energy — expressing all the optimism and eccentricity that’s true to Qatalog.
Distinctive custom typography and a vibrant colour palette helped Qatalog launch the more than 10 different products. Illustrations shows off creative approach, and tone of voice principles inject a healthy dose of attitude. We took our collaboration one step further and created marketing playbooks to help local teams capture the Qatalog spirit in colloquial ways.
Design value
To create everchanging graphics and a ceaseless identity for Qatalog, we developed a single, overarching principle, which was the basis of a self-propelled identity generating tool. We created a whole Design Bible of the Qatalog for internal use and it makes fast approach for the further design tasks and works. Graphic elements derived from the current data can be exported and used in any university paperwork, social media and even official merchandising, making it a go-to, simple to use design tool for an audience reaching far beyond the product.
“We were offered a unique way of creating graphic elements by using the model of the Design System “Bible” and approached in this way more than 10 different tasks during the month.”
